My MS Journey

Tuesday 17th Mar

Before I got diagnosed with MS, I was your typical, healthy mid-30s woman. I worked out, ate healthy and had no family history of MS or any other chronic conditions. I had big dreams too. I resigned from my job, ready to become a full-time motivational speaker.

On my last day at work, I was in an MRI machine, getting diagnosed with MS. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic condition which attacks the central nervous system (the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves). It affects everyone differently, but for me, my biggest challenge is dealing with fatigue.

It took a while to adjust to my new life with MS and accept that my body had changed. I spent years enjoying endurance sports and breaking Guinness World Records with my hula hoop. But I knew I had to let go of my past and stay open to new opportunities in my next chapter.

I started sharing my story online and I connected with so many people with chronic illnesses and disabilities who struggled too. Through social media, I connected with the team at Shh!t Happens, a toilet paper company that supports people living with disabilities and chronic illnesses.

I stepped in as CEO of Shh!t Happens to grow the business and keep making a positive impact for the disability community. I’m excited to fundraise for the MS Walk for support services that helped me during my diagnosis, like MS Connect and MS Peer Support.
