I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in May 2022. When you hear the words ‘you have multiple sclerosis’ your entire world is turned upside down. You fear for your future and the uncertainty it may bring. I personally grieved the life I thought I was going to live. Instead, my life started revolving around life long medications, fears surrounding disability, MRIs, and hospital appointments. What I found most difficult is the fact there is still no cure for MS and this means it is a disease I will live with for the rest of my life. (Hopefully thanks to medical research and funding, we can one day find a cure !! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🧡🧡)
Throughout the 4 years I have lived with multiple sclerosis, my mindset has completely shifted. I now feel so grateful to live in a time where new medications have been developed, and to have access to these disease modifying therapies (DMTs), which aim to change the course of the disease. I am on a DMT called Ocrevus which I get as an infusion every 6 months. I am so lucky to still have the ability to walk, run, work, travel, exercise and enjoy my life. I appreciate the fact that fundraising plays such a vital role in supporting charities like @msplus who provide support services for people living with MS in Australia, where I am living now.
On April 19th I will be taking part in the @mswalkrunroll event to raise money for @msplus. As always there is absolutely no pressure on anyone to donate, but any donation however small goes such a long way 🧡 If you are in Sydney and would like to take part, please register and come along, there are options for running/walking events.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and often debilitating disease which attacks the central nervous system (the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves). It is the most common neurological disease in young adults and often attacks people at a time in their lives when they are planning families and building a career. Three out of four people living with MS are women.
With your support, we can allow people living with multiple sclerosis access to vital support services, like MS Connect, MS Peer Support and MS Employment Support Programs. We’ll also be helping bring new treatments closer to reality, investing in repairing myelin damage to restore function that has been lost for people with progressive forms of the disease.
