My 'WHY'
In a couple of weeks, I am partaking in the MS Walk Run + Roll, to support a dear gal friend, Lucy who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) last year. Being driven in an ambulance to the hospital for an MS diagnosis an hour before meeting for a girl's wine night was not what we expected for her. After what was a stressful weekend, she is now thriving and girls' wine night was rescheduled.
In primary school, I regularly participated in MS walkathons and fundraising but never fully understood what MS was or the effect it had on people. This life-changing diagnosis for my dear friend came as an absolute shock. As a healthy woman in her mid-twenties, she was first suspected of a stroke and then finally diagnosed with MS.
Lucy is very fortunate that she has ample access to support for MS treatments that are allowing her to live a fairly normal life that is more or less similar to her pre-diagnosis life.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and often debilitating disease that attacks the central nervous system - the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. It is the most common neurological disease in young adults and often attacks people at a time in their lives when they are planning families and building a career. Three out of four people living with MS are women. Funds go towards helping continuing research and support for those living with MS.
I am honoured to be supporting Lucy and others who are living with MS by fundraising for them. I have designed an illustration for our team 'Spicy Brains' affectionately named after Lucy and her brain 🔥
If you are in a position to donate any amount would be greatly appreciated!
My deepest gratitude and thanks to those who have already donated to me, our team or the organisation.
